Already noticed at the Venice Biennale in 2009, Sunil Gawde asserted his presence in the eyes of the French public at the Paris-Delhi-Bombay exhibition at the Centre Georges Pompidou in 2011. The Rabouan Moussion gallery presents ‘id – od’, his new exhibition, from March 16 to April 22, 2017. Id – od’, for inner dimension – outer dimension, is an exhibition that Sunil Gawde has been working on for three years in his studio in Bombay. Conceived as an exploration, it offers the viewer the opportunity to experiment with perceptive lures. “In my experience, what we perceive and what really is can often be two absolutely different things. My work is an effort to bridge that gap. » Each work functions as a trap for discernment. The first glance cannot reveal the true subject of the piece, which turns out to be our erroneous reading of it. Realities at the limit of the perceptible escape us, setting our habits in motion and pricking the laziness of our interpretation of the visible. Thus, between the picture rails of the gallery, hurtful offerings will be presented alongside kinetic sculptures whose movement is so slow that it becomes imperceptible, aquatic reflections without water or water without reflection to reveal it. With this new opus, Sunil Gawde seems to incite us to distrust the visible and to experience the world with all our senses on the alert, without relying on a perception that could be misleading.
