Guillaume Durrieu – Grand rouge

It is in a paradoxical form of literalness – not devoid of humor – that Guillaume Durrieu’s pictorial work deploys all its perceptual and dialogical complexity.
Framing, cropping, off-screen, depth of field or even superimposition are as many manufacturing and editing processes, directly borrowed from the cinema, which allow the artist to put into perspective the apparent autonomy and objectivity of his painting, and to render it in the form of a layout. This arrangement, if it can concern a certain unfolding in space, a particular staggering of shots, a distended scale relationship, is also that of a subtle confrontation between different media, genres and registers.
