Fondation Azzedine Alaïa
28.09.20 → 03.01.21
On the occasion of a second hanging, the exhibition “Alaïa/Balenciaga” invites visitors to come and discover new dresses, both day and evening, coats and suits whose forms and architectures unite the two masters. Conceived in two successive chapters, the exhibition proposed a first face-to-face between the Spanish and Tunisian designers. Both concentrated by the cut that directs the great history of fashion, the dresses, true architectural precision, were shown in absolute darkness during the first exhibition. From September 27, it is in color that the visitor will be able to observe other points of view. The blinding pink of Balenciaga dialogues with the intense red dear to Alaïa. The essential themes of the two designers, gypsy and Spanish folklore, are expressed with models of white lace in one and perforated leather in the other. The “Gypsy” dress, famous among all Azzedine Alaïa’s creations, is exhibited for the first time in the Foundation’s gallery. Alaïa and Balenciaga, both as skilled in tailoring as they are in blurring, confirm their great mastery in all areas of technique and cut through the works on display. New dresses in chiffon and black lace, lighter than delicate handkerchiefs, are also to be seen for the first time. Elsewhere, coats and jackets, examples of the rigors observed, remind us how unique the two couturiers were in their time, timeless today. In the poetic scenography conceived and imagined by Kris Ruhs, the iconic models take other paths of presentation, new ones are added, others disappear and all together set up a new exhibition to be discovered.
