Marseille · Les Rencontres d'Averroès
16.11.23 → 19.11.23
Thirty years have already passed since the Meetings of Averroes have sought, through debate, to enlighten the great questions of our time from the Mediterranean. For this anniversary edition, it is the history of empires that this great meeting in Marseille is interested in for three days.
Will every empire perish? The Mediterranean and empires, from yesterday to tomorrow
At a time when the desire for empire is returning to Europe and the Mediterranean, can we still hypothesize, with the historian Jean-Baptiste Duroselle, that «Every empire will perish»? What causes the fall of empires or, on the contrary, maintains their cohesion? Are supremacy and strength constant in international relations?
During the day, four round tables invite reflection and awareness. In the evening, a dive into the imaginary workshop of Kamel Khélif, at the crossroads of drawing and music, a reading by Anne Alvaro of texts by René Char «An art of resistance», a rock-electro-oriental with the trio Mademoiselle and a hypnotic show to close the 30th» edition of the Rencontres d’Averroès, Noureddine Khourchid and the whirling dervishes of Damascus.
