Philippe Katerine – Like an ananas!

Philippe Katerine has not finished being free.
Invited by the Galerie des Galeries to create a carte blanche in his space, he imagines an exhibition in slices. Cut into several rooms, the exhibition “Comme un ananas” (Like a pineapple) makes us discover this unclassifiable artist under new facets.
If we know him above all as a singer, Philippe Katerine also expresses himself in different universes: cinema, dance or plastic arts. It is precisely for this dimension of total artist that the Galerie des Galeries is pleased to invite him to realize his first exhibition.
“Disappear to better reappear”, Philippe Katerine regularly practices in his clips, his concerts where he disguises himself as Queen of England, basketball player, or pope to deliver good words or vices.
In his graphic journal “Doublez votre mémoire”, published in 2007 by Denoël, Philippe Katerine commented on his memories by mixing drawings, texts and collages. For his project at the Gallery, Philippe Katerine extends his delirious introspection, but not only: with the hindsight and prescience that characterize him, he observes the world around us. As his title does not indicate, “Comme un ananas” (Like a pineapple) evokes a subject dear to the artist: the actors of public life, who enter and leave our lives. The exhibition begins with a series of intriguing drawings presented in diptychs: the first is a portrait of a personality in an incongruous situation, in the second, the subject disappears. The exhibition continues with appearances worthy of the unpredictable Philippe Katerine.
In the course of an initiatory journey, the visitor passes through several rooms as many mental, sensory and musical universes.
Through these games of absences and clues, the artist opens an astonishing and deep reflection on appearances. In hollow, a portrait of the artist appears, a mirror of each of us.
