Brassaï – 100 Photos for Press Freedom

10.11.22

Information embargoed until 2 November 2022

Thirty years ago, Reporters Without Borders published the first issue of its collection 100 photos for press freedom. Henri Cartier-Bresson, Jacques Henri Lartigue, Robert Doisneau, Willy Ronis, Izis and many other icons of twentieth-century photography were featured on the front page. One name was missing from this impressive gallery: Brassaï, the undisputed master of the lights of the night and a tireless surveyor of Paris.

An obsessive stroller, Brassaï hunted down beauty everywhere: in the streets of Paris, its cafés, its brothels, its balls… He tells of unusual places, of faces that have disappeared. Alongside these anthology images, treasures chosen from his family’s archives tell us a little-known story of the great master, that of a traveler who was the correspondent of the greatest titles of the post-war international press.

Almost unpublished photographs for an album without borders.

With the unpublished contributions of : Laure Adler, Dimitri Beck, Denis Cosnard, C215, Sophie Jacotot, José Lebrero Stals, Philippe Ribeyrolles and a foreword by Nobel Prize winner Patrick Modiano.
